Sia Furler - Aussie girl singer who made good
75
Could a woman who joined a music group and who grew so popular that she almost eclipsed the very band she was invited to join - be described as a roaring success? Well, roaring isn't her thing. If you want heavy metal, you're reading the wrong Hub. But if you want to know all about Sia Furler, the blond girl from Down Under who "made good", you came to the right place. You will perhaps recognise her name from the music group Zero 7. Perhaps her talent might even eclipse Zero 7 itself, she has gone from assisting lead vocalist in that group to Mega Star in just a few years. Originally an Aussie girl, she had a proven pedigree musically with the singles “Drink to get drunk”, “Taken for granted” and “Little Man” from the album Healing is difficult. The Wookie remix of Little Man is universally loved as a regular fave at Nightclubs the world over, and Sia was being heralded as a future Nelly Furtado or even Lauryn Hill. Sadly due to “difficulties” with her music label Sony, she left them and joined Go! Beat Records. In the following years Sia managed to blend her membership of Zero 7 and the many successes they had together with solo projects such as her solo EP “Don’t Bring Me Down”. Her music was used in films, and her second album “Colour The Small One”, a more downbeat mellow creation that included “Breathe Me” and “Where I Belong”, a track rumoured for inclusion on a Spider Man movie soundtrack. Incredibly the American success of “Breathe Me” came when it was used in the hit TV show Six Feet Under, used to memorable effect.

Sia's distinctive vocal quality is very identifiable and has huge appeal. Thanks to Astralwerks, she re-released the album and it had bonus tracks “Broken Biscuit”, “Sea Shells” and “Breathe me” (which was re-mixed by Ulrich Schnauss and Four Tet) which were all successful. Her presence on Simple Things was like a giant musical Calling Card for her as a vocalist, and sometimes life has a way of paying you back when things go so right. After more releases of new albums “Lady Croissant” and “Some People Have real Problems” and a slew of new singles released, including “Day Too Soon”, “Buttons”, “The Girl You Lost To Cocaine”, and her music being licensed and used in the Beijing Olympics and the Video Game Prince of Persia and the movie The Ultimate Gift, similar to the way Moby licensed his music from the Play album.
Sia & Zero 7
It’s safe to say, Sia Furler had arrived in Style. Requests for appearances on Later with Jools Holland helped to seal her name as an established music artist in her own right, and her new collaboration and creating four “beautiful songs” as she calls them for Christine Aguilera (which features collaborations with Goldfrappe, Le Tigre and Santifold) will endear Sia to yet more music lovers. “Soon We’ll Be Found” and “I Go To Sleep” are yet more reminders why this woman was always destined for greatness in Music, and especially in Zero 7’s seminal album “Simple Things”. (P.s. She is releasing the album “We Are Born” in 2010, just so you know!) I don’t know how she gets the energy to do all the things in her life, but she is a superstar! She won the Aria award for Best Music DVD recently!)
It's pretty clear that whatever Sia does, she will do an amazing job of it all, and she deserves to have the career she has. 2010 looks like it will be a great year for this special lady!

Cool hub - didn't know too much Sia, you have done a great job of spreading the word.
Hadn't been familiar with her before this. Sort of a Stevie Nicks feel to her voice, and someone else I can't quite put my finger on at the moment. Interesting.
